Make your PDFs accessible

It ensures that everyone, including people with disabilities, can access the information you're sharing. PDFs are a common format for sharing information, but they can be challenging for people with visual impairments, cognitive disabilities, or other disabilities to access.

PDFs must be tagged with accessibility features, such as:

• Headings and text
• Alternative text for images
• Tables and lists
• Bookmarks and Links.

PDF forms must be coded with accessibility techniques; Page numbers must be specified for consistency across PDF readers; The document title and language must be specified; All text must be searchable (i.e. the PDF is not a scanned image).

If your PDFs are not accessible, they can present significant barriers to individuals with disabilities who rely on assistive technology to access information. For example, individuals with visual impairments may rely on screen readers to read text aloud, and if the PDF is not properly formatted, the screen reader may not be able to interpret the information correctly. Similarly, individuals with mobility impairments may use alternative input devices, and if the PDF is not designed for keyboard-only access, they may not be able to navigate the document effectively.
